Broad Creek Glow: Life in the Balance

Visual ideas combined with technology combined with personal interpretation equals photography. Each must hold its own; if it doesn't, the thing collapses." - Arnold Newman

If you find life and its many challenges difficult to keep organized and some things are out of whack, you're not alone. Staying focused with minimal distraction is a key life goal for many of us. How can we stay balanced, and not in danger of falling like the proverbial fiddler on the roof?

Some would suggest that we prioritize our activities, putting our first things first as author Stephen Covey taught. We should integrate all aspects of our life, meaning to rid ourselves of that which is incongruent with our principles and goals. We should set goals for ourselves, so we have the beneficial stress of something to work for, and a reason to celebrate when we succeed. We should ensure we practice self care, for a faulty body has a hard time having a sound mind. Keeping a schedule can be helpful because many of us thrive on routine. We need to make time for spiritual practices, because there's more to life than the daily grind.

And finally, my most important lesson: Let go of things we don't control, which is practically everything. We may try to influence things beyond our control but unless it's something we think, say, or do ourselves, we risk losing our balance. Work hard on what we control and leave other people's response to our work in their control. We can't control that. Feel the peace that release of (ir)responsibility brings to you! As I wrote in my post on July 8, 2023...

Whole life have a balance. Everything be better.” – Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi, in The Karate Kid

Everything be better is right, including this composition. I love how the weight of the heavy clouds is balanced by the shadowed mass of the tufts of grasses in the creek. And it’s all bathed in the gorgeous light of a lovely low-country sunrise.

Peace be with you, my friends. And wishes for a great week ahead for all of you, full of love and life and all in balance.
